Calculating the real cost of CBD

The costs surrounding CBD can be a bit of an enigma to many people. Prices can vary wildly, concentration levels can differ, and even additional ingredients can make an appearance to add another level of comparison confusion.

There are additional factors that can affect the price of a CBD product as well, such as certification, extraction method, quality of the sourced hemp, the whims of the powers that be...you get the picture.

But assuming that you were looking at a small assortment of CBD products whose additional variables were all equal? Say everything was the same, but the products had different prices and different CBD concentrations. How do you know which is the best value? Is it the bottle of CBD oil with the smallest price tag? Is it the bottle with the highest concentration of CBD, just because more would seem better?

There is actually a very simple mathematic way that you can break down the cost of CBD to find which product is the best value for you and your needs. And the best way to do that is to figure out what the cost per milligram of CBD is in each product.

So here it is: the equation you’ve been searching the internet for.

How To Break Down the Cost of CBD

How To Find the Cost Per Milligram of CBD

All you need to have to figure out the cost per milligram of CBD is a simple 3-step equation.

For the first step in the equation, you need to break down how many milligrams of CBD there are per milliliter in the bottle:

Total mg of CBD in the bottle / Total ml in the bottle = X

Next, you want to figure out the cost of each individual milliliter in the bottle:

Total Cost of the bottle / Total ml in the bottle = Y

And last but not least, you want to take the cost per milliliter of oil (Y) and divide it by the number of milligrams of CBD in each milliliter (X):

Y / X = Cost per mg of CBD

For the sake of this example, we’ll use a 30ml bottle of 600mg CBD oil being sold for $30.00. First, let’s figure out how many milligrams of CBD are in each milliliter of oil:

600mg of CBD in the bottle / 30ml of oil in the bottle = 20mg of CBD in 1ml of oil

Okay, now let’s figure out how much each individual milliliter of oil costs:

$30 for the bottle / 30ml of oil in the bottle = $1 per 1ml of oil

Finally, let’s take the cost per milliliter and divide it by the number of milligrams of CBD in said milliliter.

$1 per 1 ml of oil / 20mg of CBD in 1ml of oil = $0.05 per 1mg of CBD

That’s exactly how you can break down the cost of CBD. So now let’s look at it in a real life comparison scenario.

Putting the Equation Into Practice

Okay, let’s compare three different CBD products. Assume all of the other factors are the same aside from concentration and price. On the shelf sits three different bottles of CBD: a 30ml bottle of 50mg CBD Oil for $50 (Bottle A), a 30ml bottle of 500mg CBD Oil for $65 (Bottle B), and a 30 ml bottle of 1500mg CBD Oil for $90 (Bottle C).

It might seem like a choice between the two less expensive options might be the way to go, but let’s do the calculations just to make sure.

Bottle A

50mg CBD / 30ml = 1.67mg CBD per 1ml

$50 cost / 30ml = $1.67 per 1ml of oil

$1.67 per 1 ml of oil / 1.67mg CBD per 1ml = $0.99 per 1mg CBD

Bottle B

500mg CBD / 30ml = 16.67mg of CBD per 1ml

$65 cost / 30ml = $2.17 per 1ml of oil

$2.17 per 1ml of oil / 16.67mg of CBD per 1ml = $0.13 per 1mg CBD

Bottle C

1500mg CBD / 30ml = 50mg of CBD per 1ml

$90 cost / 30ml = $3 per 1ml of oil

$3 per 1ml of oil / 50mg of CBD per 1ml = $0.06 per 1mg CBD

At an initial glance, a consumer may have thought that the best deal would be the cheapest bottle, but when you break down the cost, it’s nearly $1 per milligram of CBD. Whereas you pay 6% of that cost per milligram of CBD with the $90 bottle. Those are insane savings hiding behind a seemingly high price tag.

While the $90 bottle will cost more money upfront, it will save money in the long run. If you are just looking for a small dosage of CBD for your needs, you can take a smaller dose of the 1500mg CBD oil to compensate. This will also make the bottle last longer and stretch your money even farther!

But How Much Is YOUR Personal Dosage Costing You?

So you’ve figured out the product with the best value, but now you want to know exactly what your specific dosage is going to cost you each time you use it. This is pretty easy to figure out, too; we just need to expand the equation a bit.

Whether your preferred dosage is 10mg, 25mg, or 60mg, you can use this equation to help determine the cost for your personalized, individual dosage. Just take your cost per milligram of CBD for your particular product and multiply it by your dosage size.

Let’s use Bottle C (30 ml bottle of 1500mg CBD for $90) as an example:

$0.06 per 1mg of CBD x 10mg = $0.60 per dosage

$0.06 per 1mg of CBD x 25mg = $1.50 per dosage

$0.06 per 1mg of CBD x 60mg = $3.60 per dosage

This makes it really easy to determine how much each individual dosage is going to cost you and can help you as you compare the prices and value of different CBD products.

This series of equations is great because they are literally one-size-fits-all. Everyone’s dosage and concentration needs differ, so you can plug in your specific information about your dosage and your product to find out exactly what your cost per dosage would be.So while you are out shopping in store or online for your next bottle of CBD oil, keep this equation with you so you can break down the cost of CBD and find the best value!

I have always wondered about how to know what the true cost of CBD was. This breaks it down nicely. Thank you for the great info.
